This Quirky Netflix Show Has a Perfect Score on Rotten Tomatoes, & I Can See Why
Here's why I think you should watch

If you've seen any of my movie reviews, then you've probably gathered by now that I'm a big fan of compelling coming-of-age stories with female protagonists. (Bonus points if they're based on books I love.)
For instance, there's Kelly Fremon Craig's charming adaptation of Judy Blume's Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, which tackles puberty and religion. Then, there's the film adaptation of John Green's Turtles All the Way Down, which explores mental health. And of course, there's Mindy Kaling's quirky Never Have I Ever, which takes me straight back to my high school days. But now, I'd like to turn your attention to another binge-worthy Netflix series that's worth adding to your queue.
If you, like me, are drawn to teen stories that tackle real issues with humor and heart, then allow me to introduce you to Geek Girl, which currently holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. In case you're unfamiliar with the plot, it's based on Holly Smale's young adult novel of the same name and it follows a socially awkward teen named Harriet, who dreams of fitting in with the “cool kids.” However, her life completely changes when she is scouted by a top London modeling agent and embarks on a life-changing journey that helps her find love, friendship and a killer wardrobe.
So, why is this series worth the watch? For one, Emily Carey is simply delightful as Harriet Manners. So much so that I secretly wish we were BFFs. Carey brilliantly embodies the self-proclaimed geek, who also happens to love logic and hard facts, but what makes her character so likable is her humor and honesty. Especially when she's suddenly thrust into the world of glitz and fashion.
