J. Crew is my go-to for classic selects from its spring collection to its killer sales. And they’re rock stars when it comes to the wide and deep catalog of bikinis, one-pieces and coverups: I have worn a two-piece from the brand for years. But while I have always admired their one-piece suits, I had trouble finding the right size and shape since I specially need one-piece swimsuits for long torsos. Until recently, when J. Crew debuted innovative Classic Sculpt Swim, the first J.Crew shaping swimwear in both regular and long-torso fits. I had to try it.

Rewind—like many of us, I’ve tried on swimsuits with shaping panels, special seam allowances and gathers meant to flatter my figure, but never felt comfortable. Maybe the rear-end “lift” of one design is too tight, or the strong elastic flatten my boobs too much. Or worst case scenario, the leg holes squeeze so strongly that my legs bulge underneath. (“Sausage” is definitely not the shape I’m looking for.) However, J.Crew’s Lana One-Piece doesn’t do anything like that to my bod—perhaps that’s because the design is deceptively simple, and the fabrication is high quality.
