When the first season of Tim Burton’s Wednesday hit Netflix, it quickly smashed records and ushered in a wave of goth glamour—with a Puritan twist. Indeed, the central plot features a demonic pilgrim as its primary antagonist, and so, with the second season dropping August 6, I’m predicting that puritan collars will be everywhere this fall.
The internet’s favorite misanthrope isn’t the only place from which I’m drawing my inspiration. Brands like Damson Madder and Scandi-It-girl brand Ganni have been serving the puritan collar for the last few years, making them, if anything, early predictors. And if you’re thinking, “How can dressing like a Protestant possibly be cool?!,” let me tell you, the riffs on this collar are fashion-making statements. (And, FWIW, the antiquarian collar, in general, is back, seen at Chanel and Dior, among others.) Think bows, ruffles, lace, stripes, buttons, poofy sleeves! Proof that you don’t have to be an aspiring graveyard princess to pull it off. I’m predicting that the style will have some longevity, not only thanks to Wednesday but because Erdem’s Resort 26 collection was rife with them. Below, five stylish but classic iterations to shop.
