I don’t have a dog. I don’t have a cat. I don’t even have a guinea pig. So it may sound strange that when I was poking around the internet for a new vacuum, I was specifically looking for a model that could tackle pet hair. You see, I live in a house full of women, and as anyone who has experienced the same situation can attest, we shed just as much as any furry companion. So, it was essential that my new vac could successfully suction up not just crumbs and dust bunnies, but also the (read: my) long strands of hair that somehow manage to scatter every floor in every room. As soon as I spotted the Bissell PowerClean FurFinder ($230; $180), I knew I met my match. After using it weekly for going on three months now, here’s my full, honest review (with photos).

How Does the Bissell PowerClean FurFinder Compare to the Dyson V8?
If you’ve also been researching pet-friendly vacuums designed to tackle fur in addition to everyday dust and debris, chances are you’re weighing your options against a Dyson vacuum. I’d say this Bissell model is most comparable to the Dyson V8 ($385) in terms of construction, features and price point.
The Dyson V8 is slightly lighter at 5.8 pounds compared to the Bissell’s 7.1 pounds, and it has one additional crevice attachment that's longer and thinner for getting into high-up nooks. The Dyson vacuum’s motor is also more powerful at 500 watts compared to the Bissell’s 200 watts. Plus, it has the no-touch dumping system that I wish the PowerClean FurFinder had.
However, the Dyson V8 does not feature the headlights I now cannot clean without, and, of course, it is quite a bit pricier than the Bissell. But they both have specially designed, tangle-free brush rolls, cordless constructions and 40-minute battery run times. There’s no doubt that the Dyson V8 is a top-of-the-line pick, but if you’re looking to spend a bit less on a more cost-effective option, the Bissell PowerClean FurFinder is probably the next best thing.
